WAR OF LIPSTICKS: MAYBELLINE VELVET MATTE Vs SUGAR SMUDGE ME NOT LIQUID LIPSTICK

Hey Everyone!

I am here with a new episodes of the War Of Lipsticks! Its Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick versus Maybelline Color Sensational Velvet Matte Lipstick.

Sugar Cosmetics launched its liquid lipstick a few months back and as soon as I saw, it reminded me of Maybelline one. Aren't these identical! So I thought let's see if the are completely similar.

Price & Availability:

Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick - Rs. 475/- . Available online and all across stores.
Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick - Rs. 499/- . Available on Nykaa & Sugar Cosmetics website.

Packaging & Texture:

The packaging of these two lipsticks are very similar. Both of them comes in a glass tube like bottle with a matte, black cap. The shades are perfectly visible from the transparent bottles. The shade names are mentioned at the bottom of both the bottles. The only difference in the packaging is the stripe at the top of the bottles, the Sugar Cosmetics has a matte one & the Maybelline lipsticks has the glossy one.

However, the wands of both the lipsticks are quite different. Sugar liquid lipstick has a long, thin one. It picks up the lipstick easily and the thin wand helps to apply it evenly. The Maybelline one is tear shaped, broad at the beginning and tapering at the end. I somehow found this wand a bit fluffy and did not find it easy to use 😞

Talking about the texture, as the name suggests, the Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick has a very velvety and mousy texture. These look glossy on the lips, more like lip tint or lip balms.
Sugar liquid lipsticks are liquid like in texture. They are neither too thick nor very runny and dries out as completely matte on the lips.

Pigmentation & Stay Power:

I have to admit that its only the packaging of these two that is similar! These are very different from each other in terms of the pigmentation and their staying power.

Once you apply the Sugar Smudge Me Not lipstick, it take a minute to dry and then as it says, it does not smudge! It feels completely matte, a bit drying after sometime. It stays on my lips for a good 6-7 hours.

Maybelline on the other side is quite velvety and smooth to stay put for a long time. It applies easily on the lips , however starts bleeding after a while. These do not stay on the lips for a lone time and keeps fading out if you eat, drink or do anything with your lips.

Shades:

Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick - MAT 8
Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick - Plum Yum

Overall Thoughts:

To put down my final verdict, there is no doubt that Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick is a better choice for me in comparison to Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick. You apply it once and you are sorted for the rest of your day without the fear of smudging or bleeding. I know Maybelline one has some beautiful shades but Sugar ones are better to reach out to at the same price.

Rating:

Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick - 2/5
Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick - 4.5/5

Let me know what's your thought on these lipsticks. I would love to try a different shade from Maybelline if it has worked out well for you :)

Until then...
Ciao!!
